Win Streak Now At Eight As UB Men Dispatch Mercy, 79-51
Purple Knights Have Also Won 12 Of Their Last 13 Games
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team won its eighth game in a row and posted victory number 12 in its last 13 outings with a wire-to-wire 79-51 East Coast Conference triumph over the Mercy College Mavericks at home on Wednesday night. Bridgeport is now 15-8 overall and 11-2 in the East Coast Conference. Mercy falls to 3-17 overall and 2-10 in the ECC.
Senior Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) led a balance UB scoring attack with 17 points. David also grabbed six rebounds and had four assists.
David was joined in double-figure scoring by juniors JoJo Swift (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 16 points in only 19 minutes played and Ivan Simic (Belgrade, Serbia) with 11 points. Swift also had five steals and three assists on the evening. As a team, the Bridgeport defense forced 24 Mercy turnovers on the night, and UB grabbed 17 steals.
Omari Howard (Sr., Bronx, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights on the boards with seven rebounds.
Up next for the UB men is a key ECC battle with Molloy College on Saturday afternoon at home. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
