Rolls Continues As Men's Basketball Cruises Past UDC, 90-67
Purple Knights Have Now Won Six In A Row And 10 Of Last 11 Games
Washington, D.C.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team continued to roll along on Wednesday night in our Nation's Capital as the Purple Knights picked up their sixth straight victory and 10 triumph in the last 11 games with an easy 90-67 East Coast Conference win over the host University of the District of Columbia Firebirds. UB is now 13-8 overall and 9-2 in conference play. UDC falls to 2-16 overall and 1-9 in the ECC.
UB never trailed in the game, as senior Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) led the team's offensive onslaught with a game-high 24 points, as he connected on 6-of-11 three-point attempts.
Junior Ivan Simic (Belgrade, Serbia) was key to the Purple Knights' quick start in the contest, as he netted 15 of his 20 points in the first half as Bridgeport stormed out to a 47-24 halftime advantage. Simic also finished with a double-double, as he corralled a game-best 11 rebounds. UB dominated the glass on Wednesday night outrebounding UDC, 53-32.
Senior Dion Waiters (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was strong on both ends of the court for the winners recording seven steals, dishing out seven assists and scoring six points.
Quasim Jones led the Firebirds with 21 points.
The Bridgeport men will look to continue their winning streak on Saturday afternoon, February 2 at Dowling College. Action is slated to begin on Long Island at 3:00 p.m.
