UB Men's Basketball Wins Fifth In A Row And Grabs Half Game Lead In ECC Standings With 82-74 Home Victory Over LIU Post
Dion Waiters Leads Five Purple Knights In Double Figures With 21 Points
Bridgeport, Conn.-Senior Dion Waiters (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led five University of Bridgeport players in double-figures scoring 21 points, and he also added seven steals, four assists and three rebounds, as the Purple Knights posted a key 82-74 home East Coast Conference win over the visiting LIU Post Pioneers on Saturday afternoon. Bridgeport has now won five games in a row and nine of their last 10 outings, as the team ups its overall record to 12-8 and its ECC mark to 8-2. LIU Post is now 12-5 overall and 7-2 in conference play. Saturday's win gives the Purple Knights a half game lead in the conference standing over LIU Post, Molloy and NYIT, who are all 7-2 in conference action.
Waiters was joined in double-digit scoring by senior Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) with 16 points, junior JoJo Swift (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 13 points, junior Ivan Simic (Belgrade, Serbia) with 11 points and senior Lloyd Antoine (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 10 points, plus Lloyd chipped in five blocked shots and six rebounds.
LIU Post's Vaughn Allen had a fantastic afternoon leading all scorers and rebounders with an impressive double-double of 33 points and 14 rebounds.
The Pioneers dominated the glass on Saturday outrebounding U, 43-25, but Bridgeport forced LIU Post into 25 turnovers which the Purple Knights converted into 27 points.
The UB men's basketball team will look to continue its winning streak at the University of the District of Columbia on Wednesday night, January 30. Action in our nation's capital is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
