UB Men's Hoops Holds On For 74-70 ECC Victory At Roberts Wesleyan
Purple Knights Have Now Won Four In A Row And Eight Of Their Last Nine Games
Rochester, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team won its fourth straight game and was victorious for the eighth time in the Purple Knights' last nine games as UB topped the host Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks, 74-70, in East Coast Conference action on Wednesday evening. With the victory, Bridgeport is now 11-8 overall and 7-2 in the ECC. RWC slips to 5-12 overall and 2-8 in conference play.
The Purple Knights, who never trailed in Wednesday's victory, jumped out to a 41-27 halftime lead and upped their advantage to 69-50 with 6:29 to play, but UB had to hang on for the win in the end, as the Redhawks ended the game on a 20-5 run.
Senior Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) led Bridgeport with 21 points. Junior JoJo Swift (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in 10 points off the UB bench. Senior Dion Waiters (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was just short of a double-double for the winners with nine points and eight rebounds, plus Waiters also added four assists and three steals.
Devin Grimes was outstanding in a losing effort for Roberts Wesleyan, as he scored 19 points and grabbed a whopping 21 rebounds.
The UB men's basketball team is back in action at home on Saturday afternoon as the Purple Knights host LIU Post in a key East Coast Conference contest. Game time in Hubbell Gym is set for 3:00 p.m.
