Darian David Nets A Game-High 24 Points As Men's Basketball Defeats St. Thomas Aquinas, 72-59
UB Men Have Now Won Three In A Row And Seven Of Last Eight Contests
Bridgeport, Conn.-Senior Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) scored a game-high 24 points to help lead the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team to its third straight victory and seventh win in its last eight outings, as the Purple Knight never trailed in a 72-59 home East Coast Conference triumph over the visiting St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans on Saturday afternoon in Hubbell Gym. With the win, Bridgeport is now 10-8 overall and 6-2 in conference play. STAC falls to 3-12 overall and 3-4 in the ECC.
David, who also had four rebounds and three steals on the afternoon, was the only UB player to notch double-figure scoring on Saturday, as juniors Ivan Simic (Belgrade. Serbia) and JoJo Swift (Brooklyn, N.Y.), each scored nine points for the Purple Knights. Senior Omari Howard (Bronx, N.Y.) fell just shy of a double-double for Bridgeport, as he grabbed a team-leading 10 rebounds and netted eight points.
The Purple Knights dominated the glass on the day outrebounding St. Thomas Aquinas, 43-28.
UB also was hot on offense from long range, as the team hit 50 percent of its three-point shots going 5-of-10 from behind the arc.
Sean James led STAC with 18 points, and Omar Kellman had a game-high 11 rebounds for the Spartans.
The UB men's basketball will look to run its winning streak to four on Wednesday night when the Purple Knight travel to Rochester, N.Y. to face the Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks in an ECC tilt. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m. in upstate New York.
