Molloy Snaps Men's Basketball's Four-Game Winning Streak With 62-48 Win On Long Island
UB Back In Action At Home On Saturday Versus NYIT
Rockville Centre, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak snapped with a 62-48 East Coast Conference road loss at Molloy College on Wednesday night on Long Island. The Purple Knights raced out to a 6-0 lead on six straight points by senior Dion Waiters (Brooklyn, N.Y.) to open the contest and led 9-2, but it was all downhill for UB from there as Molloy would comeback to take a 28-22 halftime advantage on the way to the win. With the loss, Bridgeport is now 7-8 overall and 3-2 in conference action. Molloy is now 7-5 overall and 3-1 in the ECC.
Junior Ivan Simic (Belgrade, Serbia) led UB and all scorers on the night with 16 points, and he was joined in double figured by Dion Waiters who netted 12 points.
Bridgeport senior Omari Howard (Bronx, N.Y.) led all rebounders in the game with 10 boards.
Tyler Hammett and Matt McLeod led Molloy in scoring as the each had 12 points for the winners who shot a blistering 60.9 percent from the floor in the second half, connecting on 14 of 23 field goals.
The 48 points scored by the Purple Knights are a single-game low in scoring for the 2012-13 season.
The UB men's basketball team is back in action on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 12) when the Purple Knights host conference co-leader NYIT. Game time in Hubbell Gym is set for 3:00 p.m.
