Senior Dion Waiters Falls Just Short Of A Triple-Double As Men's Basketball Picks Up 84-67 Home Win Over Roberts Wesleyan
Win Ups Team's Winning Streak To Three Games
Bridgeport, Conn.-Senior Dion Waiters (Brooklyn, N.Y.) fell just two rebounds shy of a triple-double on Thursday night with 15 points, 11 assists and eight boards, as he helped the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team to an 84-69 home East Coast Conference win over the visiting Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks. Waiters also chipped in two blocked shots and four steals to cap of an outstanding night. UB is now 6-7 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The Purple Knights will head into Saturday afternoon's road game versus Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. on a three-game winning streak and winners in four of their last five contests. With the loss, RWC is now 5-6 overall and 2-1 in the ECC.
The Purple Knights never trailed in the win on Thursday, as they shot an impressive 51.6 percent from the floor, connecting on 33 of 64 shots.
Waiters led a balanced Bridgeport offensive attack that saw three other players reach double-figure scoring, as junior Ognjen Zoric (Subotica, Serbia) had 13 points, senior Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) chipped in 12 points and junior JoJo Swift (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 11 points.
Newcomer Curtis Loving (Brooklyn, N.Y.), playing his first game in UB uniform, netted nine points in only five minutes played on the night, and seniors Lloyd Antoine (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Omari Howard (Bronx, N.Y.), each scored eight points for the winners.
Mike Stone and William Kemp-Harris led Roberts Wesleyan with 14 points apiece, and Devin Grimes had a double-double for the Redhawks scoring 11 points and grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds.
