Men's Basketball Defeats Adelphi, 52-44, For First Road Win Of 2012-13 Season
Purple Knights Back In Action On Wednesday At Southern Connecticut State
Garden City, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team picked up its first road win of the 2012-13 season on Sunday, as the Purple Knights never trailed on the afternoon, as UB defeated the host Adelphi University Panthers, 52-44. The 44 points scored by the Panthers is a single-game, season low allowed by the Bridgeport defense. With the win, Bridgeport is now 4-7 overall on the season. Adelphi slips to 3-8 on the year. The Purple Knights swept the two-game season series from the Panthers, as Bridgeport won 76-66 in the Park City back in November in the season opener for both squads.
Junior Ivan Simic (Belgrade, Serbia) led Bridgeport in scoring with a game-high 14 points on the day. Ivan was joined in double figures by senior Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) who netted 10 points for the winners.
Senior Omari Howard (Bronx, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights on the glass grabbing a game-high nine boards. UB outrebounded Adelphi, 36-27, on the afternoon.
Sean Crawford led Adelphi with 12 points.
The UB men's basketball team is back in action on Wednesday, December 19 when the Purple Knights travel north on I-95 to face local rival Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening. The SCSU contest will be the Purple Knights' final game of the 2012 calendar year.
