Milka's Buzzer Beater Lifts St. Rose To 56-54 Win Over Men's Basketball At Adelphi Classic
Purple Knights To Face Host Panthers At 3:30 p.m. On Sunday
Garden City, N.Y.-St. Rose's Dominykas Milka, who finished the game with 16 points and 17 rebounds, hit an 18-foot jumper at the buzzer off a long, baseball pass from teammate James Wilson to lift the Golden Knights to a 56-54 win over the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights in the opening game of the 2012 Adelphi University Men's Basketball Classic on Saturday afternoon on Long Island. Bridgeport tied the game at 54-54 when junior Ognjen Zoric (Subotica, Serbia) split two free throws with 1.3 seconds to play in regulation. Milka's game-winning shot capped off a furious comeback for the Golden Knights who trailed 49-39 with 6:47 to play. With the win, St. Rose is now 7-2 on the season. UB slips to 3-7.
Bridgeport's Dion Waiters (Brooklyn, N.Y.) played a fine all-around game before fouling out with just over 4:30 to play, as he netted a team-leading 15 points for the Purple Knights and grabbed 10 rebounds to notch a double-double, plus he added six steals and one blocked shot.
Waiters was joined in double figures by senior Lloyd Antoine (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who scored 10 points and blocked six shots.
Senior Omari Howard (Bronx, N.Y.) grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds for UB.
Andre Pope of St. Rose led all scorers on the day with 20 points.
The Bridgeport men's basketball team is back in action tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m. when they close out the 2012 Adelphi University Men's Basketball Classic with a tilt against the host Panthers. St. Rose takes on Philadelphia University at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow.
