Men's Basketball Snaps Losing Skid With Gusto As Purple Knights Defeat UDC, 92-68
92 Points Are A Single-Game, Season-High For The Team
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team snapped a five-game losing streak with gusto on Saturday afternoon, as the Purple Knights scored a single-game, season-high 92 points in a 92-68 home East Coast Conference win over the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds. UB is now 3-6 overall and 1-1 in the ECC. UDC slips to 1-6 overall and 0-1 in conference action.
The Purple Knights shot the ball well from the floor in Saturday's victory connecting on 53.4 percent (39 of 73) of their field goals, including going 9 of 18 from behind the three-point line.
Bridgeport also dominated the backboard outrebounding UDC, 48-29.
Senior Dion Waiters (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led a balanced UB attack with 17 points, as he hit 8 of 12 field goals. Waiters also grabbed eight rebounds for the winners. He was joined in double-digit scoring by junior Ivan Simic (Belgrade, Serbia) with 16 points, as he was red-hot from the floor hitting six of seven shots including a perfect four of four from downtown, and senior Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) with 14 points plus senior Omari Howard (Bronx, N.Y.), who fell just short of a double-double with 13 points (six of seven from the floor) and a game-high nine rebounds.
Quasim Jones led the Firebirds with 16 points.
The Bridgeport men hit the road for their next three games. UB is back in action after final exams in next weekend's Adelphi University Classic in Garden City, N.Y. The Purple Knights face the College of St. Rose on Saturday, December 15 at 1:00 p.m., and then take on the host Adelphi University Panthers on Sunday, December 16 at 3:30 p.m.
