Men's Basketball Tops Adelphi, 76-66, In 2012-13 Season Opener
Darian David Leads Purple Knights With 26 Points
Bridgeport, Conn.-Senior Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) scored a game-high 26 points, 17 of which came in the first half, to help lead the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team to a 76-66 season-opening win over the visiting Adelphi University Panthers in the opening game of the 2012 UB Men's Basketball Classic on Saturday afternoon in Hubbell Gym. Davis also added five steals and five rebounds to go along with his 26 points. UB never trailed on its way to the season-opening victory.
Senior Dion Waiters (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had an outstanding all-around game for the Purple Knights scoring 12 points and grabbing a game-high nine rebounds. Waiters also chipped in five assists and eight steals for winners.
Junior Ognjen Zoric (Subotica, Serbia) rounded out Bridgeport's double-figure scored on Saturday with 10 points.
UB won the game at the foul line hitting 28 of 36 free throws, while Adelphi went 11 of 15 from the line.
John Calarco led Adelphi with 18 points on the day.
In day two of the 2012 University of Bridgeport Men's Basketball Classic on Sunday, November 11, Adelphi will face Goldey-Beacom at 2:00 p.m., and Bridgeport will take on Southern Connecticut State at 6:00 p.m.
In Saturday's other men's game, Southern Connecticut defeated Goldey-Beacom, 94-77.
