Men's Basketball Picks Up First Win Of 2011-12 Season With 80-69 Triumph Over SCSU
Junior Darian David Leads Purple Knights With 26 Points
Bridgeport, Conn.-Junior Darian David (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led four University of Bridgeport players in double-figure scoring with 26 points as the Purple Knights evened their 2011-12 men's basketball record at 1-1 with an 80-69 home win over the Southern Connecticut State University Owls on Sunday. SCSU is also now 1-1 in the early season. David hit 9-of17 field goals, including going 4-for-8 from three-point range, and he went 4-for-5 from the foul line.
Bridgeport stormed out to a 39-22 halftime lead and held on for the victory. The Owls cut the lead down to two points, 48-46, with 11:30 to play in the contest but never took the lead in the second half.
Joining David in double figures for Bridgeport were senior Dante Menter (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 14 points, senior William Harrison (Bronx, N.Y.) with 13 points and senior Eion Lewis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded his second consecutive double-double of the year scoring 12 points and grabbing a game-high 17 boards.
SCSU's Greg Langston led all scorers in the game with 33 points.
The Bridgeport men's basketball team is next in action next Saturday afternoon at Bentley University. Game time in Waltham, Mass. is set for 2:00 p.m.
