Top-Seeded Bridgeport Men Top NYIT, 79-70, To Move Into ECC Championship Final
UB Set To Face Second Seed C.W. Post For ECC Crown And A Trip To The NCAA's
Bridgeport, Conn.-The top-seeded and host University of Bridgeport men's basketball team advanced to the finals of the 2011 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament with a 79-70 win over the .New York Tech Bears on Saturday afternoon in a game played in UB's Hubbell Gym. The Purple Knights will now face second seed C.W. Post at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday in UB's Hubbell Gym, as the number two seed Pioneers pulled out 73-67 overtime victory over the third seed Queens (N.Y.) College Knights
Bridgeport's Dave Boykin (Graduate Student, White Plains, N.Y.) led scorers in the game with 21 points. He was joined in double figure by senior Msoo Ikyaator (Nigeria, West Africa), who had a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds (six offensive boards), and senior Tim Cokley (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), who fell just shy of a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Bridgeport dominated the game on the glass as they outrebounded NYIT by a whopping 52-27.
Kris Knez led four NYIT platyers in double-figure scoring with 18 points.
Bridgeport heads into Sunday's Championship Final on a nine-game winning streak with a 19-8 overall record. NYIT completes its 2010-11 season at 13-15. The Purple Knights have now also won 14 of their last 15 contests.
The winner of Sunday's East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Championship will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament that will begin on Saturday, March 12th.
