Loss Snaps Purple Knights Three-Game Winning Streak
Old Westbury, N.Y.-The NYIT Bears came back from a 12-point second half deficit to post a 79-74 East Coast Conference win over the visiting University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Saturday afternoon. The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for UB, as the Purple Knights are now 3-3 overall and 3-1 in the ECC. NYIT is now also 3-3 overall and an even 2-2 in the ECC.
Senior Jermaine Washington (Philadelphia, Pa.) led three Bridgeport players in double-figure scoring with 21 points at New York Tech. Washington was joined in double-digit scoring by junior Josh Martin (Philadelphia, Pa.) with 18 points and senior Msoo Ikyatoor (Nigeria, West Africa) chipped in 15 points.
Senior Tim Cokley (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla,) led the Purple Knights on the glass with 11 boards.
NYIT's Kayvan Roberts led all scorers in the contest with 25 points and teammate Jerrell Walker had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
New York Tech dominated the game at the foul line connecting on 25-of-32 free throws; while the Purple Knights went to the line only 16 times hitting nine free throws.
Bridgeport is right back in action at home on Sunday afternoon when they host Bentley University in a non-conference game. Action gets underway in Hubbell Gym at 3:00 p.m.
