Men's Basketball Stays Undefeated In Conference Play With a 70-53 Home Win Over Molloy
Purple Knights Now 3-0 In ECC Action
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team opened the game on a 7-0 run and never trailed as the Purple Knights posted a 70-53 home East Coast Conference win over the Molloy College Lions on Wednesday night. The win, UB's third in a row, keeps the team undefeated in conference play at 3-0. Bridgeport is now 3-2 overall. Molloy falls to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the ECC.
The Purple Knights did much of their damage on offense against Molloy from behind the three-point line, as they hit 12-of-27 shots from downtown. On the night, Bridgeport hit a total of 25 field goals.
Senior Jermaine Washington (Philadelphia, Pa.) led UB in scoring with 21 points. Washington went 5-for-6 from three-point range.
Joining Jermaine in double-figure scoring were senior Tim Cokley (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) with 13 points, and juniors Josh Martin (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Donte Mentor (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 11 points apiece.
Senior Msoo Ikyatoor (Nigeria, West Africa) played a strong game on the defensive end of the court grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds, blocking four shots and making two steals.
Freshman John Petrucelli led Molloy in scoring with 12 points.
Bridgeport is back in action on Saturday afternoon at NYIT. Action gets underway at 4:00 p.m. The next afternoon (Sunday, December 12), the Purple Knights return home for a non-conference contest versus Bentley University. Tip-off on Sunday is set for 3:00 p.m. in Hubbell Gym.
