Strong Second Half Helps Men's Basketball To 77-55 Win Over Mercy
Purple Knights Limit Mavericks To Only 19 Second Half Points
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team opened the second half on a 14-2 run and limited the Mercy College Mavericks to a total of only 19 second half points, as the Purple Knights posted a 77-55 home East Coast Conference win on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Bridgeport is now 2-2 overall and 2-0 in East Coast Conference play so far in 2010-11. Mercy remains winless at 0-5 overall and 0-2 in the ECC.
Senior Jermaine Washington (Philadelphia, Pa.) led three Bridgeport players in double figures with 19 points. Jermaine also had five rebounds, four steals and three assists on the day. Washington was joined in double figures by junior Josh Martin (Philadelphia, Pa.) with 18 points, 12 of which came in the second half, and senior Tim Cokley (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), who had a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Cokley also contributed five assists.
Mercy was led by Hasan Powell with 13 points.
The UB men will look to run their winning streak to three games on Wednesday night when they host Molloy College in an East Coast Conference game. Action begins in Hubbell Gym at 7:00 p.m.
