BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Facing one of the top teams in the CACC and the East Region, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team picked up a pair of wins (6-0, 9-1) over Goldey-Beacom College on Sunday. The Purple Knights have now won four games in a row.
GAME ONE – Bridgeport 6, Goldey-Beacom 0
The first win of the day was an historic one as it served as the 200th for head coach Joe Tonelli at Bridgeport. Tonelli, who is currently in his 12th season leading the Purple Knights, is UB's all-time winningest coach.
Sophomore James Ackerman starred in the opener. The right-hander went the distance, scattering just four hits in a seven-inning shutout. He finished with seven strikeouts and just two walks.
Ackerman enjoyed great run support by the Purple Knights as they put across three runs in the second and three in the fifth.
Bridgeport's offense was sparked by Patrick Krempasky going 2-for-2 with two RBIs while Jacob Rich went 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 9, Goldey-Beacom 1
The Purple Knights hopped all over Goldey-Beacom with three runs in the second inning of Game Two. They then followed up with six runs—all with two outs—in the fifth.
Christian Ortiz registered four RBIs in the finale courtesy of a triple in the second and a double in the fifth. He also walked once and scored twice.
Jaden Echevarria went 2-for-2 as well with two runs scored and two RBIs while Liam O'Neal and Vin Mallon joined in with RBI singles of their own.
Bridgeport's pitching was once again successful in the second game of the day. Justin Nyarady earned the win courtesy of allowing just one run in five innings.
Joaquin Brasher followed with a pair of scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Brasher tallied five of his six outs via strikeouts.
