POMONA, N.Y. – Continuing a stretch of 10 straight conference games, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team swept a doubleheader at Dominican on Friday.
GAME ONE- Bridgeport 7, Dominican 6
Tied 5-5 through eight innings, the Purple Knights put a pair of runs across in the ninth to take a 7-5 lead. Matt Wild would end up closing the door in the bottom half of the ninth to earn his first career save.
UB's offense was on point in the opener. The Purple Knights piled up 15 hits, including five doubles and a home run.
Freshman Patrick Krempasky knocked two of those doubles and walked while Jake Woods launched the solo home run in the ninth.
Woods ended the contest 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Angel Irby also had a team-high three hits to go along with an RBI.
Brendan Palmer pitched well in a no-decision effort. The right-hander allowed just three earned runs in seven innings of action.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 8, Dominican 6
The Purple Knights battled back from a 6-0 deficit in Game Two. Bridgeport registered five runs in the third and three in the fourth.
Now holding an 8-6 lead, UB's starting pitcher Alex Springer tossed three hitless innings to close out his second win of the season. Springer went the distance, allowing just three earned runs with four strikeouts.
Krempasky had two more hits in the finale while also supplying three RBIs. He finished the two games 4-for-9 with four RBIs and a walk.
Marcos Dominguez and Vin Mallon served as UB's other multi-hit performers. Dominguez went 2-for-3 with a walk while Mallon went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Anthony Pascale also performed well as he drove in a pair of runs with a double to left-center in the third inning.
