NEWARK, N.J. – Combining for a remarkable 55 runs in two games, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team swept a doubleheader at Bloomfield on Saturday.
The Purple Knights racked up 38 total hits and 10 home runs in victories of 30-3 and 25-0. UB scored multiple runs in 12 of 14 innings played.
Bridgeport had 13 different players record at least one RBI in the first game and 11 different players tally one in the second game.
Amongst a plethora of impressive performances was a 4-for-4, 7-RBI effort from Vin Mallon in the first game. He hammered two home runs, including a grand slam in the seventh inning.
Speaking of two home runs, Justin Leigh did just that in the second game of the day. He finished 2-for-5 with five RBIs.
The second game also featured Jay Hamilton going 4-for-6 with three runs and three RBIs and Jeremy Rodrigues finishing 3-for-5 with five RBIs.
On the mound, Alex Springer and Justin Nyarady both picked up wins. Springer was especially strong, tossing five scoreless innings with just two hits.
Nyarady is now 4-0 this season with a team-best ERA of 3.97.
