BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Playing a mid-week, non-conference contest, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team was defeated by Assumption on Wednesday by a score of 5-3 in 10 innings.
Trailing 3-1 into the eighth, the Purple Knights found the late equalizers. Sophomore Liam O'Neal hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-2 while Jacob Rich tied the game up courtesy of an RBI single of his own.
With the game even at 3-3, Bridgeport had a chance to walk off in the ninth but left the bases loaded. They finished the game with 17 runners left on base.
Jeremy Rodrigues knocked in UB's first run of the game in the fifth inning. His RBI double to score Rich put the score at 2-1.
O'Neal, Rich, and Rodrigues all finished with multiple hits in the game. O'Neal was especially productive with a 3-for-5 afternoon.
Bridgeport used 10 pitchers in the game, and they performed well. Prior to the 10th, the Purple Knights allowed only three runs on seven hits. They also totaled an impressive 14 strikeouts.
