CALDWELL, N.J. – Seeing action for a sixth straight day, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team opened conference play on Wednesday with a 9-6 win at Caldwell.
Needing to start their CACC campaign with a win, the Purple Knights set the tone immediately. A Jake Woods two-run home run in the top of the first inning kick-started an early onslaught.
Bridgeport went on to enjoy three more scoring innings en route to a 7-0 advantage through five.
Anthony Pascale launched the Purple Knights' second home run in the seventh inning. It was a solo shot that provided UB with an 8-2 lead.
Woods and Pascale combined to go 4-for-8 with four RBIs and three runs scored.
Justin Leigh was also stellar at the dish, tallying a team-best three hits and a walk. Collectively, the Purple Knights' lineup piled up 14 total hits from nine different players.
UB's starting pitcher Justin Nyarady tossed his second straight victory. This time, he didn't allow an earned run and struck out five across six innings of work.
Nyarady has now yielded just four earned runs over his last 18.0 innings (3 starts).
Joaquin Brasher closed the door out of the bullpen. The right-hander tossed scoreless eighth and ninth innings to pick up his first career save.
