UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Taking the field for a fourth straight day, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team dropped a 5-3 matchup at No. 12 Molloy on Tuesday.
In a tightly contested tilt that was scoreless through four innings, the Purple Knights led 3-2 heading into the home sixth. The Lions went on to tie the game, 3-3, in the sixth before plating a pair of go-ahead runs in the eighth.
All three of UB's runs came via the long ball as Christian Ortiz hit a two-run home run in the fourth before Angel Irby hammered a solo shot in the sixth.
Incidentally, the two home runs served as the Purple Knights' only two hits in the contest. Bridgeport initiated seven walks.
Statistically, it was a well-pitched contest on Tuesday. Vincenzo Bruno earned the start for UB, allowing only two earned runs across 5.1 innings of work. He yielded only three hits which ended up being Molloy's total for the day.
