Baseball Defeated by Mercy in Home Opener, 6-3
UB's offense totals seven hits and seven walks while leaving 11 runners on base.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Playing in front of their home fans for the first time this season, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team dropped a 6-3 contest to Mercy on Friday afternoon.
The Purple Knights scored all three of their runs in the fifth inning. Freshman Patrick Krempasky put UB on the board with an RBI double while Anthony Pascale's RBI single gave UB a 3-1 advantage.
Mercy would go on to score a run in the sixth, two in the seventh and another in eighth to secure a 6-3 edge. UB, meanwhile, left the bases loaded in the eighth and stranded two runners in the ninth.
Krempasky served as the Purple Knights' top batter, finishing the game 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. He is now batting .350 this year with nine walks.
Three of Bridgeport's seven hits on Friday were doubles as Christian Ortiz and Jeremy Rodrigues both joined Krempasky with two-baggers.
UB's starting pitcher Justin Nyarady pitched well in a no-decision effort. The right-hander allowed just two runs while striking out seven across six innings of work.
