MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Continuing a four-game series against AIC, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team split a doubleheader against the Yellow Jackets on Saturday. The Purple Knights earned an 8-6 win before falling 5-1. Both contests were seven-inning affairs.
GAME ONE – Bridgeport 8, AIC 6
The Purple Knights led 8-0 through six innings thanks to 12 hits and seven different players registering an RBI.
UB's offense was largely supplied by extra-base hits. Jeremy Rodrigues and Angel Irby each tallied home runs while Patrick Krempasky, Anthony Pascale and Vin Mallon all hit RBI doubles.
On the other side of the ball, senior Justin Nyarady earned the win after allowing three earned runs across six innings of work.
Sophomore Tyler Hodella secured the final out of the game to earn the save.
GAME TWO – AIC 5, Bridgeport 1
The Purple Knights only mustered two hits in the second game of the day.
Junior Jeremy Rodrigues recorded one of those knocks with a solo home run in the fifth inning. He has now launched a remarkable five home runs in just seven games played.
Rodrigues is batting a team-best .520 with 10 RBIs and a 1.240 slugging percentage.
