Sophomore Catcher Anthony Pascale Named Second Team All-East Coast Conference
Led UB In 2022 With A .326 Batting Average
West Babylon, N.Y. – Queens College's Marc Cisco (Long Island City, N.Y.) and Molloy College's Charlie Cucchiara (East Meadow, N.Y.) headline the East Coast Conference Baseball All-Conference awards announced on Wednesday afternoon. Cisco becomes the second ECC baseball standout in the past three seasons to earn a Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year award in the same season (Joshua Loeschorn, LIU Post – Pitcher & Rookie of the Year in 2019), while Cucchiara was named the conference's Pitcher of the Year
Cisco had one of the best collegiate debuts in conference history to claim both the honor as the league's top player and rookie. He nearly won a triple crown after leading the league with nine home runs and 46 RBI, while compiling a .429 batting average, second in the ECC by just one point. In addition, he also leads the conference with 45 runs scored and 102 total bases and ranks second with 60 hits, 29 walks, five sacrifice flies, a .517 on-base percentage, and a .729 slugging percentage. The five-time ECC weekly award honoree has his name on the national leaderboard, as well, with his batting average currently ranking 21st in all of Division II.
After being named the ECC Preseason Pitcher of the Year in January, Cucchiara followed through to take the award as the loop's top pitcher after finishing with an unblemished record during the regular season. The two-time ECC Pitcher of the Week finished a perfect 7-0 over 11 starts. In 75.0 innings, he struck out 48 batters and allowed just 24 earned runs for an earned run average of 2.88. His wins, innings pitched, and ERA totals all ranked in the top three in the ECC. Cucchiara was one of only four pitchers in the conference who tossed a complete-game shutout this season, as well, doing so on April 14 in a two-hitter against Bridgeport.
Molloy's joe Fucarino and Queens' Chris Reardon wrap up the ECC's top honors by sharing the Coach of the Year award. Fucarino earns the honor for the fifth time and second straight year after leading the Lions to a program-record of 32 wins. Under his guidance, Molloy also claimed the ECC Regular Season Championship and currently holds the No. 2 spot in the NCAA East Region rankings.
Reardon earns a share of the award after leading the Knights to the program's best season in over 20 years. With a record of 24-15 heading into postseason play, the Knights eclipsed the 20 win plateau for just the fifth time in 30 seasons and topped a .600 winning percentage (.615) for the first time since 1998.
