Purple Knights Will Close Out The 2022 Campaign Versus The Spartans On Saturday With A 12 Noon Home Doubleheader
Pomona, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team fell in a pitchers' duel, 2-1, on Thursday night against the host St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans. The Purple Knights are now 19-26 overall and 8-11 in the East Coast Conference. STAC moves to 20-21 overall and 12-7 in the ECC.
UB was limited to only three singles on the night, and freshman Michael Fletcher (Winter Park, Fla.) drove in his team's only run with a base hit in the eighth inning,
The Spartans scored both their runs in the fourth inning on a solo home run and a wild pitch.
Andrew Francella (Grad., New Rochelle, N.Y.) was the tough luck loser for the Purple Knights working seven strong innings as the starter, in which he allowed on five hits, two runs (both earned) with two strikeouts.
Classmate Anthony Martino (West Sayville, N.Y.) worked a scoreless relief inning to close things out for Bridgeport.
Up next, the UB baseball team will close out its 2022 season at home on Saturday with a 12 noon doubleheader in Seaside Park to close out the three0game series with St. Thomas Aquinas.
