Baseball Blasts Lincoln (Pa.), 14-4, To Win Weekend ECC Series
14 Runs On Saturday Mark A Season-High For The Purple Knights
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team scored a season-high 14 runs on Saturday afternoon, as the Purple Knights cruised to a 14-4 home East Coast Conference win over the visiting Lincoln (Pa.) University Lions in the rubber game of a three-game East Coast Conference series between the two teams. With the win, UB is now 13-17 overall and 5-4 in the ECC. Lincoln falls to 5-25 overall and 1-8 in league play.
As a team, the Purple Knights had 15 hits in Saturday's victory led by sophomore Jake Woods (Stony Brook, N.Y.) who went 3-for-5 with four runs batted in and three runs scored.
Graduate student Alex Rauso (Trumbull, Conn.) knocked in three runs for the winners and had two hits on the day, including his third home run of 2022.
Conall Roberts (Grad., Mt. Laurel, N.J.), Anthony Pascale (So., Stony Brook, N.Y.) and freshman Michael Fletcher (Winter Park, Fla.), each had two hits and drove in two runs for Bridgeport on Saturday.
Graduate student Jason Burger (Orlando, Fla.) earned his second win of the season as Saturday's starter. Burger fired six strong innings in which he allowed two hits, two runs (Both earned) with eight strikeouts and four walks.
Up next, the UB baseball team will hit the road on Tuesday afternoon and travel to Springfield, Massachusetts to take on the American International College Yellow Jackets in a non-conference game. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
