Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team split a home East Coast Conference doubleheader with the visiting Lincoln (Pa.) University Lions on Friday afternoon in Seaside Park, as the Purple Knights stole 11 bases and plated seven runs in the seventh and eighth innings to win game one, 10-1, before the visitors came back to take the nightcap, 5-3. With the split, UB is now 12-17 overall and 4-4 in the ECC. Lincoln is now 5-24 overall and 1-7 in conference play.
In game one, Conall Roberts (Grad. Mt. laurel, N.J.) stole five bases and scored three runs to jump start the Purple Knights' offense.
Freshman Jeremy Rodrigues (Monroe, Conn.) went 3-for-5 at the play and drove in two runs in the opener, and sophomore Anthony Pascale (Stony Brook, N.Y.) knocked in three runs for the wins.
Junior Justin Nyarady (Trumbull, Conn.) worked six strong innings as the Bridgeport starter in game one to pick up his second win of the season; allowing six hits and one run (earned) with seven strikeouts and three walks.
Senior Justin Hafele (Shelton, Conn.) closed game one out with two scoreless innings of relief.
In the nightcap, the Purple Knights grabbed a 2-0 lead after two innings scoring runs on a single by Craig Leonard (Sr., Holtsville, N.Y.) and a Lions' error, but Lincoln came back to score the next five runs in the contest keyed by a three-run home run by Wesley Hogan in the fifth inning to pick up the win.
The same two team will play the rubber game of their conference series tomorrow at 12 noon in Seaside Park.
