UB Baseball Nipped By New Haven, 3-2, In Tuesday's Series Opener
Purple Knights And Chargers Will Meet Again In Seaside Park At 3 PM On Wednesday
Bridgeport, Conn.-The host University of Bridgeport Purple Knights led 2-0 after three innings, but the visiting University of New Have Chargers scored one run in the fourth and two in the fifth and went on to post a 3-2 win on Tuesday afternoon in Seaside Park. UB is now 4-9 overall, and UNH up its season mark to 8-3.
The Purple Knights scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning on sacrifice fly by freshman Jeremy Rodrigues (Monroe, Conn.), who also had a double in the game, and a Chargers' error.
Starter Andrew Francella (Grad., New Rochelle, N.Y.) took the loss on Tuesday to fall to 1-2 on the season, as he worked 4.1 innings allowing three runs (all earned, on six hits with four strikeouts and four walks.
The Bridgeport bullpen did a fine job on Tuesday hold New Haven scoreless for 4.2 innings, as junior Tyler Solomon (Blue Point, N.Y.) worked 1.2 innings, and senior Matthew Wirz (Stamford, Conn.) blanked the Chargers over three innings.
The same two teams will meet again tomorrow in Seaside Park at 3:00 p.m. to close out their two-game series.
