Melbourne, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team saw its season record even at 3-3 on Wednesday night, as the Purple Knights fell to the host Florida Tech Panthers, 9-3. With the win, the Panthers raise their season mark to 12-5.
UB got off to a fast start on Wednesday leading 3-0 after three full innings, but Flordia Tech tied the game with three runs, two of which were unearned, in the bottom of the fourth and then added three more in the fifth to take a 6-3 lead which they never relinquished.
Sophomore Jake Woods (Stony Brook, N.Y.) had two hits on the night for the Purple Knights, and classmate Justin Leigh (Bridgeport, Conn.) and junior Tyler Sharfetz (Fords, N.J.), each drove in runs for Bridgeport.
After taking Thursday off, the UB baseball team will begin the final portion of its Spring Trip with a three-game series against Embry-Riddle University in Daytona Beach, Florida. The series will get underway with a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader on Friday afternoon.
