Baseball Battles Number One Tampa
Purple Knights Fall To The Host Spartans, 8-4, On A Sixth Inning Grand Slam
Tampa. Fla.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team battle the top-ranked University of Tampa Spartans in the Sunshine State on Tuesday night, but a grand slam home run by the host's Luke Glancy in the bottom of the sixth inning snapped a 4-4 tie, as Tampa defeated UB, 8-4. Bridgeport is now 3-2 on the young season; while the Spartans move to 13-1 overall.
Graduate student Alex Rauso (Trumbull, Conn.) got the Purple Knights off to a good start in the the top of the first inning, as he blasted a two-run homer.
Trailing 4-2, UB came back to tie the contest at 4-4 in the bottom of fourth inning on a two-RBI single by freshman Michael Fletcher (Winter Park, Fla.).
Fletcher finished with two hits on the evening, as did junior Jacob Rich (Northwood, N.H.).
On the mound for Bridgeport, starter Anthony Martino (Grad., West Sayville, N.Y.) took the loss to fall to 0-2 on the young season, as he worked 5.1 innings.
Bridgeport banged out nine hits in the game to eight for Tamps, but the hosts benefited from eight walks and two hit batters in the contest.
The UB baseball team will be right back in action tomorrow night in the Sunshine State, as they will travel to Florida Tech for a 6:00 p.m. ballgame.
