Bridgeport Baseball Tops LeMoyne, 6-4
UB Now 2-1 On The Young 2022 Season
Myrtle Beach, S.C.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team moved to 2-1 on the young 2022 season with a 6-4 victory over the LeMoyne College Dolphins (2-5) on Saturday afternoon at the Cal Ripken Experience.
With the game tied at 4-4, UB plated runs in the top of the sixth and the top of the ninth to secure the victory.
Sophomore Justin Leigh (Bridgeport, Conn.) led an 11-hit Purple Knights' attack with three hits on the day, and senior Craig Leonard (Holtsville, N.Y.) and graduate student Conall Roberts (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) chipped in a pair of base knocks for the winners.
Roberts, classmate Alex Rauso (Trumbull, Conn.) and sophomore Jake Woods (Stony Brook, N.Y.), each had an RBI for Bridgeport.
The winners also used the running game to their advantage on Saturday stealing a total of our bases.
On the mound, graduate student Andrew Francella (New Rochelle, N.Y.) worked seven strong innings as the starter to earn the win. In his seven innings on the mound, Francella, allowed six hits, four runs (three earned) with three stakeouts and three walks.
Senior Justin Hafele (Shelton, Conn.) worked the final two innings of the contest to earn his first save of the season, as in those two scoreless frames, he allowed only one hit with no walks and one strikeout.
Up next, the UB baseball team closes out the Palmetto State portion of its annual Spring Trip on Sunday with a 12 noon game versus Wilmington (Del.) University.
