Purple Knights Earn Two More Postseason Baseball Honors
Alnaydo Rodriguez And Casey McCone Honored For Their Outstanding Play During 2016
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball program has received two more postseason accolades this week following the team's 2016 success that saw the Purple Knights' make UB's first-ever NCAA Division II Championship Tournament appearance.
Senior, designated hitter Alnaydo Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.) has been selected as an Honorable Mention All-America by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA), and junior, third baseman Casey McCone (Milford, Conn.) has earned a spot on the 2016 Second Team East-American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-Region Team.
Rodriguez led UB in home runs and runs batted with a record-setting total of 10 homers and 41 RBI, and he also posted a .325 batting average in 50 games played.
McCone posted a team-best .357 batting average in 2016 and was second in home runs with five and runs batted in with 36.
