Baseball Sees 2015 Season Come To And End With 4-1 Loss To St. Thoams Aquinas In ECC Final
UB Finishes The Year 25-24 And Team Makes Fourth Appearance In ECC Finals In Last Five Seasons
Uniondale, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team saw its 2015 season come to a close with a tough 4-1 loss against the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans on Championship Saturday of the East Coast Conference Tournament hosted by Molloy College at Mitchel Field in Uniondale, N.Y. UB wraps up 2015 with a 25-24 record, and the Spartans, who have won three consecutive ECC baseball titles, move onto next week's NCAA Division II Championship Tournament with a 27-17-1 mark. Saturday marked the Purple Knights fourth appearance in the East Coast Conference baseball final in the last five seasons.
STAC scored two runs in the second inning to grab an early lead, but UB cut the deficit in half with a run that scored on a Spartans' throwing error in the top of the fifth inning. St. Thomas Aquinas scored the final two runs of the day in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Sophomore Anthony Morris, who was named the ECC Championship's Most Outstanding Player, worked a complete game for the winners allowing the Purple Knights only four and one walk over his nine innings on the mound with nine strikeouts. The Bridgeport run was also an unearned run against Morris, who is now 6-2 on the year.
Senior Clayton Morris (Sharpsburg, Ga.), making only his fourth start of the year, pitched well for UB but took the loss to even his record at 1-1. Clayton worked seven strong innings in which he allowed five hits, four runs (three earned) with three strike outs and five walks (one intentional).
Sophomore Casey McCone (Milford, Conn.) had two hits for Bridgeport in Saturday's loss.
