UB Baseball Falls In Non-Conference Action At Wilmington (Del.) University
Purple Knights Set To Face Queens (N.Y.) College This Weekend In ECC Action
Wilmington, Del.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team lost an 11-2 non-conference road decision against the host Wilmington (Del.) University Wildcats on Wednesday afternoon. UB is now 4-14 overall, and the Wildcats raise their season mark to 12-6.
Trailing 3-0 entering the top of the sixth inning, the Purple Knights score two runs to cut Wilmington's lead to 3-2, but the hosts scored 2 runs in the sixth, one in the seventh and five runs in the eighth inning to put the game away.
Junior Dave Egeland (Toms River, N.J.) led the UB offense on Wednesday going 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Freshman Kevin Johnson (Milford, Conn.) started the game for Bridgeport and took the loss to see his season record fall to 0-2. Johnson pitched well on the day going 6.1 innings in which he allowed only four hits while striking out three and walking two. He allowed six runs on the day but only two were earned as the Purple Knights committed six errors on the day.
Up next, the Bridgeport baseball team is scheduled to begin a four-game weekend East Coast Conference series against Queens (N.Y.) College on Friday. As of now, Friday's game is slated to be played at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport with a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
