Purple Knights Fall Twice Against St. Thomas Aquinas In 2013 ECC Baseball Opener
Same Two Teams Will Play In Bridgeport On Saturday Afternoon
Pomona, N.Y.-It was a tough afternoon for the University of Bridgeport baseball team on Thursday afternoon, as the Purple Knights opened their 2013 East Coast Conference schedule with two losses against the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans. STAC scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win game one, 8-7, and the Spartans completed the sweep with 16-1 win in game two as Robert Frank hurled a no-hitter. UB is now 5-10 overall and 0-2 in the ECC. St. Thomas Aquinas ups its overall mark to 14-6, and the Spartans are 5-1 in conference play.
In game one, junior John Ascenzia (West Haven, Conn.) had three hits, and senior Zach Theulen (W. Springfield, Mass.) drove in two runs.
The same two teams will continue their four-game ECC series with a single game in Bridgeport on Saturday afternoon. Game time at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard is set for 3:00 p.m.
