Bridgeport Cross Country Squads Have Best Day Of The Season At York (N.Y.) Invitational
Women Finish Fourth On The Day And Men Take Sixth Place
New York, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport cross country teams had their best performances of the 2019 season on Sunday, as the Purple Knight took part in the York (N.Y.) College Invitational in New York City. The UB women finished in fourth place out of 16 schools that sent runners, and the Bridgeport men took sixth place out of 16 schools with competitors.
Senior Ashley Arroyo (Hamden, Conn.) was the top Bridgeport women's team finisher, as she covered the 6K course in a time of 31:25.40 for 21st scoring place. Close behind Arroyo were classmate Renata Avendano (San Antonio, Texas) in 25th scoring place in a time of 32:35.30, and junior Hannah Kreiger (Brunswick, N.Y.) in 26th scoring place in a time of 32:43.90.
On the men's side, Junior Bretton Marks (Higganum, Conn.) covered the 8K course in a time of 35:58.50 to be the first Purple Knight across the finish line and taking scoring spot number 23. Next for the Purple Knights, just one spot behind Marks, came senior Kari Hassinen (Helsinki, Finland) in a time of 36:07.40.
After a weekend off, the UB cross country squads will return to action on October 5th, when the teams compete in the NJIT Highlander Invitational.
