Central Islip, N.Y.-East Coast Conference Commissioner, Dr. Robert Dranoff, announced the list of 979 student‐athletes who were named to the ECC Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2012‐2013 academic year on Thursday afternoon. The ECC's 10 member institutions continued to increase the number of student‐athletes honored for the fourth consecutive year (759 in 2011‐12; 678 in 2010‐11; 654 in 2009‐10; 617 in 2008‐09; 613 in 2007‐08).
"We are very proud of this impressive list of student‐athletes who participated this past year in East Coast Conference athletics and who excelled academically," said Dranoff. "They are all fine representatives of their institutions and the ECC in the work they do in their sports, in the community, and in the classroom. LIU Post led all ECC institutions for the second consecutive year, placing 158 student‐athletes on the Honor Roll, which accounts for over 38% of their student‐athlete population. Molloy was next with 119 student‐athletes and also led the way with 51.7% of their student‐athlete population being honored. Bridgeport (109), Dowling (112), and Roberts Wesleyan (114) also surpassed the 100 mark. Roberts Wesleyan was the runner‐up by percentage, with 51.0%.
The Commissioner's Honor Roll is awarded to student‐athletes who receive a 3.25 or better cumulative grade point average. This annual recognition, in addition to Scholar‐Athlete awards, helps to uphold the East Coast Conference's mission of promoting the total person and the ability to excel not only in the athletic arena but also in the classroom.
