Purple Knights Top Queens In Four Sets In ECC Volleyball Play To Run Winning Streak To Five Straight Matches
Win Ups Team's Season Mark To 13-8 And Conference Record To 6-2
Flushing, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team upped its overall season record to 13-8 and its East Coast Conference mark to 6-2 with a four-set, 25-8, 24-26, 25-17, 25-12, road win over the host Queens (N.Y.) College Knights on a rainy Tuesday night in New York City. With the loss, Queens is now 3-16 overall and 2-7 in conference action.
The Purple Knights used a balance offensive attack to secure the win on Tuesday as three UB players reached double-digit kills led by senior Amanda Keller (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and freshman Paola Hernandez (Bayamon, P.R.), who each had a total of 12. Keller finished the night adding three service aces and three blocks for the winners, and Hernandez notched her tenth double-double of 2021 recording a team-high 16 digs.
Freshman Melanie Smith (Ft. Collins, Colo.) slammed 11 kills in just two sets played versus the Knights.
Senior Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) fell just shy of a double-double with nine kills and 14 digs, and graduate student Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) had eight kills and 13 digs on the night.
Freshman setter Jaden Drollinger (Queens Creek, Az.) posted her eleventh double-double this season at Queens, as she orchestrated the Purple Knights' offense with 46 assists and added 11 digs on defense.
Tuesday's win gives Bridgeport a season-best five match winning streak, and the Purple Knights now lead the all-time series against Queens by a 24-13 margin.
Up next, UB volleyball team returns to Hubbell Gym to open a two-match homestand that will begin with a key East Coast Conference tilt against Molloy College on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. Earlier this season, the Lions defeated the Purple Knights in five sets on Long Island.
