UB Volleyball Picks Up Third Straight Victory With Five-Set Triumph At Pace
Purple Knights Now 11-8 On The Season
Pleasantville, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team picked up its third win in a row on Tuesday evening, as the Purple Knights prevailed over the host Pace University Setters in five sets in a non-conference contest, 25-20, 22-25, 26-24, 18-25, 17-15. With win, UB is now 11-8 overall; while the Setters slip to 1-13 on the season. Bridgeport also evens its record in five-set matches so far this season at 3-3.
Four Purple Knights reached double-digits kills on Tuesday night led by freshman Paola Hernandez (Bayamon, P.R.), who led the team with 19 kills and finished with a double-double, as she led UB with 14 digs.
Senior Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) was next with 13 kills, and classmate Amanda Keller (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) slammed 11 kills for the winners.
Graduate student Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) notched her first double-double of the season at Pace with 10 kills and 11 digs, and freshman setter Jaden Drollinger (Queens Creek, Az.) made it a trio of Purple Knights with double-doubles, as she dished off 48 assists and had 11 digs.
Senior Megan Kreitler (Shelton, Conn.) had a fine night on defense for the Purple Knights recording 13 digs in only two sets played.
Tuesday night's match featured 27 ties and 13 lead changes. In the fifth set, Bridgeport led 13-7, but the host Setters stormed back to take a 14-13 lead, but the Purple Knights staved off match point and went on to win the final set by a 17-15 score.
Up next, the Bridgeport women's volleyball team returns home and is back in East Coast Conference play on Sunday afternoon, as the Purple Knights host Roberts Wesleyan College at 12 noon.
