Purple Knights Move To 10-8 On The Season With Non-Conference Home Volleyball Sweep Of Franklin Pierce
Freshman Paola Hernandez Leads The Team With A Match-Best 18 Kills
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team upped its overall season record to 10-8 on Friday night with a straight sets (25-23, 25-18, 26-24) home, non-conference victory over the visiting Franklin Pierce University Ravens. With the loss, FPU is now 8-7 on the season.
Freshman Paola Hernandez (Bayamon, P.R.) led the UB offense on Friday slamming a total of 18 kills, which are her second highest total of the season just behind the 20 she notched in a five-set win over Caldwell on September 21.
Classmate Melanie Smith (Ft. Collins, Colo.) fell just shy of double-digit kills with nine in the three sets, and she finished the night with a season-high and team-leading four service aces.
Senior Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) was next in line on offense with seven kills, and she also contributed seven digs for the winners.
Freshman setter Jaden Drollinger (Queens Creek, Az.) had a solid all-around match directing the Bridgeport offense with 36 assists, plus chipping in seven digs, three kills and one service ace.
Graduate student Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) led the Purple Knights' on defense with eight total digs, and senior Amanda Keller (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) recorded a team-best three blocks in the triumph.
Up next, the UB women's volleyball team will enjoy a rare off weekend before returning to the court next Tuesday evening at Pace University for another non-conference contest. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
