Manchester, N.H.-For the second straight match, the University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team fell on the road in five, hard-fought sets, as the Purple Knights lost a non-conference tilt on Wednesday night to the host St. Anselm College Hawks, 29-27, 11-25, 25-20, 23-25, 13-15. UB is now 7-6 overall, and the Hawks up their season mark to 11-4.
To say that Wednesday's match was a see-saw affair, perhaps would be an understatement, as there were a total of 30 ties and 14 lead changes in the five sets.
Freshman Paola Hernandez (Bayamon, P.R.) led the Bridgeport offense with 16 kills on the night, and she finished with a double-double, as she notched 13 digs.
Senior Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.m.) had a solid night on offense for UB with 13 kills and a team-high .346 hitting percentage.
Freshman Melanie Smith (Ft. Collins, Colo.) also had double-double versus St. Anselm slamming 10 kills and tying for the team lead in digs along with graduate student Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) at 15.
Setter Jaden Drollinger (Queens Creek, Az.) gave the Purple Knights three players with double-double in the Granite State, as she dished off 41 assists and recorded 12 digs.
Up next, the UB women's volleyball team will open a busy weekend of conference action at home in Hubbell Gym by hosting the D'Youville College Saints at 12 noon on Saturday. The team will follow that up with a big East Coast Conference affair against Daemen College at 12 noon on Sunday.
