Offense Sizzles As Volleyball Sweeps Queens In ECC Action
Purple Knights Hit An Impressive .411 On The Night
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport volleyball team had its offense clicking on all cylinders on Wednesday night, as the Purple Knights hit .411 as team (47 k-8 e-95 ta) in cruising to a straight sets, 25-17, 25-8, 25-16, home East Coast Conference win over the visiting Queens (N.Y.) College Knights in Hubbell Gym. With the victory, Bridgeport is now 7-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play. QC slips to 2-10 overall and 1-2 in the ECC.
Freshman Melanie Smith (Ft. Collins, Colo.) led the Bridgeport offensive onslaught with a match-high 16 kills on 25 attacks with only one error for a ,600 attack percentage. Classmate Paola Hernandez (Bayamon, P.R.) chipped in 12 kills for the winners and hit .391.
Freshman Madison Jongsma (Sanford, Fla.) added six kills on 13 attacks with no errors for a .462 attack percentage to aid her team's cause.
Setter Jaden Drollinger (Queens Creek, Az.) directed the offense with 40 assists on the night.
Senior Amanda Keller (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had five kills, five service aces and three blocks on the night for the Purple Knights, and classmate Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) had a fine night on defense tying for the team lead in digs with Smith at nine and registering five blocks.
Up next, the UB women's volleyball team hits the road for a key ECC match at Molloy on Saturday afternoon. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m. on Long Island.
