Bridgeport Volleyball Sees Three-Match Winning Streak Stopped In Hard-Fought Tilt At New Haven
Chargers Top Purple Knights In Four Sets In Non-Conference Action
West Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team saw its three-match winning streak come to an end on Tuesday evening, as the Purple Knights fell in a hard-fought, non-conference road match to the host University of New Haven Chargers, 23-25, 20-25, 25-23, 19-25. UB is now 6-4 overall on the season, and UNH ups its' season mark to 9-5.
Four Purple Knights finished with double-double on Tuesday, as freshmen Paola Hernandez (Bayamon, P.R.) and Melanie Smith (Ft. Collins, Colo.) led the Bridgeport offense with 13 kills apiece and had 10 and 13 digs respectively.
Senior Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) finished with 11 kills, and 17 digs, and freshman Jaden Drollinger (Queens Creek, Az.) dished out 46 assists and added 10 digs.
Freshman Madison Jongsma (Sanford, Fla.) had an efficient night on offense for UB hitting a red-hot .500, as she amassed 8 kills on 16 attacks with no errors.
Graduate student Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) anchored the Purple Knights; defense with a team-high 22 digs.
Macy Brown Led the Chargers with a match-high 17 kills, and she was followed by Jessica Akiona, who tallied 16 kills.
The UB women's volleyball team will be right back on the court tomorrow night, Wednesday, September 29, as the Purple Knights host Queens (N.Y.) College at 7:00 p.m. in an East Coast Conference contest.
