Purple Knights Battle On Volleyball Senior Night But Fall In Four Sets To LIU Post
Junior Setter Ellie Rich Moves Past 3,000 Career Assist Mark As Team Honors Seniors Bruna Santos And Sheri Middleton
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team wrapped up its 2017 home schedule on Tuesday night in Hubbell Gym with a hard-fought and entertaining, four-set loss to LIU Post, 22-25, 25-16, 20-25, 25-27. UB heads into its regular season finale tomorrow night at NYIT with a 12-14 overall record and an 8-5 East Coast Conference mark. With the win, LIU Post ups its overall mark to 27-4, and the Pioneers are 11-2 in the ECC.
Sophomore Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) led three Purple Knights in double-digit kills 15 on the night, and she finished with a double-double recording a match-high 17 digs. Hennemann also had three service aces on the evening.
Classmate Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) finished with 14 kills, five total blocks and four service aces for UB, and senior Bruna Santos (Curitiba, Brazil), who was playing her final match at home along with fellow senior Sheri Middleton (Humboldt, Kansas), notched 11 kills over the four sets. Middleton had four kills and three total blocks on the night.
UB junior Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) went over the 3,000 career assist mark on Tuesday, as she entered play needing nine helpers to reach that plateau, and she finished the contest with a total of 41.
Freshman libero Olivia Storaci (Longmont, Colo.) had a total of 12 digs for the Purple Knights.
