Bridgeport Volleyball Battles But Falls In Five Sets At Daemen
Team Returns To Hubbell Gym On Wednesday Night Versus Mercy
Amherst, N.Y.- The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team played its most exciting match of the 2017 season on Saturday afternoon in Western New York, as the Purple Knights battled back from being down two sets to none to force a deciding fifth set before falling to the host Daemen College Wildcats in East Coast Conference action. The Purple Knights lost the first two sets by scores of 20-25 and 22-25 before winning set three, 25-23 and set four, 25-20, before losing the fifth set, 12-15. UB is now 4-8 overall and 1-1 in conference play, as Saturday's loss snapped a three-match winning streak for the Purple Knights. Daemen is now 5-8 overall and 2-0 in the ECC.
Senior Bruna Santos (Curitiba, Brazil) led the Bridgeport offense with 19 kills and finished with a double-double adding 10 digs.
Sophomore Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) posted her third straight double-double, as she had 14 kills and 14 digs.
Junior setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) posted her own double-double with 44 assists and 12 digs.
Freshman Olivia Storaci (Longmont, Colo.) led all players on the afternoon with 27 digs in the contest.
Classmate Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Texas) also finished with double-digit digs with 15.
Up next, the UB women's volleyball team returns home for an ECC match on Wednesday night in Hubbell Gym versus Mercy College. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
