Balanced Offensive Attack Helps UB Volleyball Sweep Dowling In 2014 Conference Opener
Purple Knights Now 6-1 Overall And Head To Roberts Wesleyan And Daemen for Weekend Action In Upstate New York
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team used a balanced offensive attack as five players had at least seven kills, and as a team, UB hit .408, as the Purple Knights posted a straight sets, 25-21, 25-19, 25-11, victory over the visiting Dowling College Golden Lions in the 2014 East Coast Conference opener for both teams. Bridgeport is now 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the ECC. Dowling is now 5-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Junior Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) led the Purple Knights; offense with 12 kills. Rosa also chipped in seven digs and three blocks on the night. She was joined in double-figure kills by sophomore Frida Randen (Sodertalje, Sweden) who had 10 kills with no errors on 15 total attacks to produce a .667 attack percentage for the winners.
Senior Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) was solid on both sides of the net with eight kills and a match-high five blocks.
Classmate Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) also had eight kills on the evening.
Senior Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) notched seven kills and had 22 assists plus added two service aces with one dig and one block.
Graduate student Giovana Soares (Sao Paulo, Brazil) had 20 assists and four digs for the Purple Knights on Tuesday, and senior libero Michele Santos (Campinas, Brazil) led the UB defense with a match-high 11 digs.
Up next for the Bridgeport women's volleyball team is a trip to Upstate New York to face Roberts Wesleyan College on Friday night and Daemen College on Saturday morning in East Coast Conference action. The next home match for the Purple Knights will be one week from today, Tuesday, September 23 when the Molloy College Lions come to Hubbell Gym.
