UB Volleyball Wraps Up International Exhibition Series With Zhejiang University of China By Picking Up A 3-2 Victory
Purple Knights Now Set To Open Regular Season And ECC Slate By Hosting Queens (N.Y.) On Thursday
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team wrapped up its three-match, home international exhibition series with Zhejiang University of China on Tuesday evening, and the Purple Knights picked up their first win in the series as they prevailed in five sets, 22-25, 25-16, 25-17, 20-25, 15-8. Zhejiang had won the first two matches by 3-0 and 3-2 set scores.
Junior Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) led the UB offense with 17 kills and a solid .351 attack percentage on the evening (17 k-4 e-37 ta), plus she tallied a double-double with a team-high 15 digs. Shen was joined in double-digit kills by sophomore Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) with 12 and junior Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) with 11. Oliveira posted a .600 attack percentage on the night (11 k-2 e-15 ta), plus she added six blocks (two solos and 4 block assists). Rosa also chipped in five blocks (two solos and three block assists), as the Purple Knights notched a total of 15 team blocks on the night, and she (Rosa) also had a double-double with 10 digs.
Junior Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) had a solid all-around night, as she amassed nine kills, a team-leading 26 assists, seven digs and two block assists.
Senior Fernanda Silva (Brasilia, Brazil) had 23 assists on the night plus eight digs.
The Bridgeport volleyball team is back in action at home on Thursday night when they host Queens (N.Y.) College in the team's regular season and East Coast Conference opener. Action gets underway in Hubbell Gym at 7:00 p.m.
