Volleyball Raises ECC Record To 5-0 With 3-1 Home Win Over Molloy
Purple Knights Have Won Six Matches In A Row And Are 12-2 Overall
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team remained perfect in East Coast Conference play at 5-0 and raised its overall record to 12-2 with a four-set, ECC home win over the Molloy College Lions on Thursday night. UB won the contest by scores of 25-10, 25-17, 20-25, 25-19. The Purple Knights have now won six matches in a row and have won 10 of their last 11 contests. Molloy is now 6-11 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
Sophomore Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) led Bridgeport with 19 kills on Thursday night, and she was just shy of a double-double with nine digs. Savic was joined in double-figure kills by fellow sophomore Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) with 13 digs, and Shen did notch a double-double with 10 digs.
Sophomore setter Fernanda Silva (Brasilia, Brazil) had a fine evening as she registered a double-double with 45 assists and 10 digs, plus she added three block assists.
Senior libero Taylor McBeth (Langley, B.C., Canada) had a good night on defense with a team-high 20 digs.
Seniors Sabrina Simas (Blumenau, Brazil) contributed eight kills and four block assists in the win, and classmate Darsel Springer (Bonair Gardens, Trinidad & Tobago) added six kills and three block assists for the winners.
The UB volleyball team will take the weekend off, and the Purple Knights will return to the court in Hubbell Gym as they continue their five-match homestand with an ECC contest versus LIU Post on Tuesday, October 9. Action gets underway in the Hub at 7:00 p.m.
