Purple Knights Fall In Five Sets At Dowling
UB Now 3-1 In Conference Play And 8-2 Overall
Oakdale, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport and the Dowling College women's volleyball teams traded the first two sets of the match but the host Golden Lions prevailed in the decided fifth set, as the UB saw its five-match winning streak snapped, 21-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-21, 11-15. With the loss, Bridgeport is now 8-2 overall and 3-1 in the East Coast Conference play. Dowling raises its overall record to 13-3, and DC is now 5-0 in conference play.
Both of Bridgeport's losses this season have come in five sets.
Freshman Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) led the UB offense with 20 kills, and she notched a double-double adding 11 digs.
Savic was joined in double-figure kills by freshman Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) with 12 and senior Fernanda Costa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) with 11. Costa also led the Purple Knights with 21 digs.
Senior setter Tamara Leite (Natal, Brazil) dished out 51 assists and had a fine all-around match contributing 19 digs and five block assists.
Dowling's Bethany Shepard led the Golden Lions with 20 kills.
Bridgeport is back in at home on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. when the Purple Knights will host the University of New Haven in a big regional match. UB will be looking to avenge a five-set loss on the road to the Chargers earlier this season.
